Gijang County in Busan Adds More Buses to Route 57 to Improve Public Transportation in Underserved Areas

Gijang County (Governor Jeong Jongbok) announced on September 12 that, starting from September 16, it will increase the number of vehicles operating on the 'Gijang-gun Bus Route No. 57' to improve transportation convenience for residents in areas underserved by public transportation.

This additional vehicle is aimed at alleviating transportation inconveniences for residents of Jeonggwan-eup and providing a more stable public transportation service. The county has invested a total of 800 million won, including national and county funds, to deploy one more vehicle.

'Route No. 57' starts at Jwacheon Station and connects to Yelim Village, the Jeonggwan-eup Administrative Welfare Center, and continues to Wolpyeong and Byeongsan. After the addition of the new vehicle, the number of trips will increase, and the average daily ridership is expected to rise from the current 270 to about 360.

Jeong Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, stated, "We expect this increase in vehicles will further enhance the convenience of public transportation for our residents," adding, "We will continue to improve transportation conditions by actively reflecting residents' opinions."

The Gijang-gun Bus is a resident-oriented public transportation service introduced in 2019 as part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' 'Rural Transportation Model Project.' Currently, seven vehicles operate on three routes, with a cumulative ridership reaching approximately 565,000. The service continues to contribute to guaranteeing mobility rights for residents in areas with limited public transportation, and the number of users is steadily increasing.
