Noh Soyoung: "Establishing Serious Accident Measures at the Local Government Level"

Gwangju Namgu Council Passes Standing Committee Review of 'Serious Accident Prevention and Management' Ordinance Bill Noh Soyoung, Gwangju Namgu Council Member. Provided by Gwangju Namgu Council

An ordinance bill requiring local governments in Gwangju Namgu to establish a comprehensive safety management system to prevent serious accidents in advance and ensure effective response has passed the standing committee.

The Gwangju Namgu Council announced on the 12th that the "Ordinance on the Prevention and Management of Serious Accidents in Namgu," sponsored by Council Member Noh Soyoung during the 314th temporary session, has passed the review of the Social Construction Committee.

With the recent enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, public sector entities are now also obligated to ensure safety and health. As a result, the need for local governments to strengthen disaster prevention systems at their respective workplaces and facilities has increased. In response, this ordinance bill was proposed to establish a comprehensive safety and health management system for the advance prevention of serious accidents and effective response measures.

The main provisions include: ▲ Establishment and implementation of plans to prevent and respond to serious accidents ▲ Securing budgets for safety and health ▲ Designating key targets for the management of major civic disasters ▲ Forming an advisory panel, among others.

Noh Soyoung stated, "Through this ordinance, I expect fundamental prevention and management measures for serious accidents at the district level," adding, "I will continue to do my best to ensure that residents can work in a safe and healthy environment."

Meanwhile, the ordinance bill is scheduled to be deliberated and enacted at the second plenary session of the 314th temporary meeting on September 16.
