The Gwangju Cultural Foundation in Gyeonggi Province (CEO Oh Seyoung) announced on the 12th that the 30th Gwangju Namhansanseong Cultural Festival will be held for three days from September 19 to 21 at Namhansanseong Provincial Park.
This year's festival marks its 30th anniversary and is themed "Beyond a Thousand Years of Wind, the Time Walls of the Namhansanseong Cultural Festival Awaken Again." The event will feature a variety of programs highlighting the history and heritage of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Namhansanseong, as well as the people who have protected it.
On the opening day, September 19, the festival will present the thematic opening performance "People Walking on Time," which bridges the past, present, and future, along with a celebratory concert by world-renowned jazz vocalist Nah Youn Sun.
On the second day, the festival will offer a range of performances, from traditional Korean music and martial arts to original musicals. In the evening, "Groove in Sanseong" will take place, where visitors can enjoy Gwangju's traditional liquor and Toechon tomato bakery treats alongside live performances.
Additionally, the festival will feature a wealth of unique experiences exclusive to the Namhansanseong Cultural Festival, including "Historical Fortress Walking Tour: The Walls of Time," "Scholar and Tea Ceremony Experience," "Fortress Path Stamp Walk," "Together! Daedong Parade," and the "Sooeojangdae One-Night Historical Healing Camp: Night of the Fortress, Morning of the Guardians."
On the final day, September 21, visitors can take part in the "Hyojonggaeng Tasting Challenge," featuring the hangover soup from the Joseon Dynasty, and the "Daedonggut" traditional ritual. Throughout the three-day festival, the southern gate parking lot area will also host "Sanseong Flavor," a local specialty food market run by the Namhansanseong Merchants Association.
