Payment Due by September 29
Buan County in North Jeolla Province has imposed the second installment of environmental improvement charges, totaling approximately 80 million won, on 3,050 diesel vehicles.
According to the county on September 11, the environmental improvement charge system is designed to encourage voluntary pollution reduction by imposing environmental costs on those responsible for pollution, and to reasonably secure investment resources needed for environmental improvement projects, thereby contributing to the creation of a pleasant environment.
The automobile environmental improvement charge is imposed twice a year (in March and September) on a post-payment basis. This second installment covers the period during which diesel vehicles were owned in the first half of this year (from January 1 to June 30).
If there was a change in ownership or if the vehicle was scrapped or deregistered during the assessment period, the charge is calculated on a pro-rata basis according to the number of days the vehicle was owned.
The payment deadline is September 29. Payment can be made at a bank (using the bill), by transferring funds to the NongHyup virtual account listed on the bill, by credit card, via internet banking, at a CD/ATM, or through Wetax. For more information, please contact the Environmental Division at the county office.
A county official stated, "The environmental improvement charge is an essential resource used to continuously create a pleasant environment," and added, "If payment is not made by the deadline, a 3% late fee will be imposed and other disadvantages may occur, so please make sure to pay on time."
