Comedian Lee Sangjun Wins Grand Prize Hanwoo at Auction

At the Premium Beef Evaluation Contest of the Eutteum Hanwoo Competition, promoted by Jeonnam Province, the farm owned by Seo Byunggeun in Gwangyang won the grand prize.
The Premium Beef Evaluation Contest of the Eutteum Hanwoo Competition, held to increase the income of Hanwoo farmers by producing top-quality Hanwoo beef, took place on September 10 at the Nonghyup Naju Livestock Market.
This evaluation featured 28 top-quality Hanwoo steers, all under 32 months old and selected for their excellent pedigree and superior traits, submitted from 17 cities and counties.
According to the results, the grand prize went to a member farm of Jirisan Soonhan Hanwoo, specifically the farm owned by Seo Byunggeun in Gwangyang, which is certified for antibiotic-free livestock products. The auction price reached 5.1 million won per kilogram-2.4 times higher than the national average auction price of 22,000 won per kilogram-totaling 27.85 million won, further elevating the reputation of Jeonnam's finest Hanwoo.
The Excellence Prize was awarded to Choi Hana's farm in Gokseong (21.28 million won), while the Merit Prize went to Lee Jaeseong's farm in Yeongam (15.6 million won).
The winners will receive prize money and a commendation from the Governor of Jeonnam Province at the 41st Jeonnam Province Eutteum Hanwoo Competition, which will be held at the Suncheon Gwangyang Livestock Market on November 6.
In particular, the event drew significant attention as comedian Lee Sangjun, who is also the owner of a Hanwoo specialty franchise restaurant, personally participated in the auction and successfully bid for the grand prize-winning Hanwoo.
Kim Sungjin, Director of Livestock Policy at Jeonnam Province, stated, "We will continue our efforts to improve Hanwoo breeding so that Jeonnam Hanwoo can be recognized as the best in the nation, thereby increasing farmers' income."
