Ministry of Agriculture and KOTRA Host Smart Farm Roadshow
61 Export Consultations Held Between Companies from Both Countries
Canadian Smart Farm Market Expected to Reach 12 Trillion Won
Korean smart farm companies have begun to actively target the Canadian market, which is facing challenges such as an aging population and labor shortages.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency held the "2025 Canada Smart Farm Roadshow" in Toronto, Canada, for four days starting on September 8 (local time). This was the first smart farm roadshow held in Canada. Nine Korean companies participated, attending a Canadian agricultural exhibition and conducting one-on-one B2B export consultations with Canadian buyers.
On September 10, a networking seminar was held, attended by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and agricultural innovation research institutes from Ontario and Quebec. During the event, insights were shared on trends in the Canadian smart farm market and potential areas for cooperation with Korea. According to the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, local companies showed strong interest in the participating Korean companies' autonomous greenhouse control systems, data-driven cultivation systems, and drone-based agricultural solutions during the subsequent one-on-one consultations. A total of 61 export consultations were conducted between companies from both countries, confirming the potential for expanding exports to Canada.

In Canada, agriculture accounts for 7% of GDP, highlighting its importance. However, due to an aging population and labor shortages, the government is actively promoting the adoption of smart farms. Currently, about half of all Canadian farms (50.4%, approximately 95,000) have already implemented smart farm technologies such as autonomous vehicles, agricultural machinery, greenhouse equipment, and drones. The market is also expected to grow significantly, with the Canadian smart farm market projected to expand at an average annual rate of 14.6% from 2024 to 2030, reaching 8.8 billion dollars (approximately 12 trillion won).
Kim Myunghee, Vice President and Head of the Innovation Growth Division at the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, stated, "This smart farm roadshow was an opportunity to showcase the excellence and usefulness of K-smart farm technologies in the rapidly growing Canadian market and to seek collaborative partners. We will continue to provide all necessary support to help Korean smart farm companies expand into the North American market in the future."
