"Let's Play in the Mudflats"... 2025 Boseong Beolgyo Mudflat Festival to Be Held

A Variety of Events on the 20th:
Leisure Mud Boat Race and
Mudflat Trail Ecological Walking Competition

Boseong County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Kim Cheolwoo) announced on September 11 that the '2025 Boseong Beolgyo Mudflat Festival' will be held on the 20th in the Jangyang Fishing Village area of Beolgyo-eup.

This year's festival, themed 'Let's Play in the Mudflats!', is hosted and organized by the Boseong Beolgyo Mudflat Festival Promotion Committee (Chairman Kim Gildu). It is designed as a family-friendly ecological and cultural festival to widely promote the value of the Boseong Beolgyo mudflats, which are listed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, and the Boseong Mud Boat Fishery, designated as National Important Fishery Heritage No. 2.

The festival will officially kick off with an opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on the day. During the opening, there will be a proclamation ceremony for the 'flagship species, the Far Eastern Curlew,' symbolizing the ecological significance of the Beolgyo mudflats, accompanied by a performance to foster a shared sense of ecological protection.

The highlight of the festival is undoubtedly the 10th Leisure Mud Boat Race. The mud boat is a traditional fishing tool that glides across the mudflats. Riding a mud boat and racing across the flats will offer children a sense of adventure and provide adults with unforgettable memories.

For the first time this year, the 'Beolgyo Mudflat Trail Ecological Walking Competition' will take place from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The course starts at the main stage in Jangyang Fishing Village and covers a round-trip distance of 7.4 kilometers to Beolgyo Ecological Park. Participants can choose between the Jjangttungeo Course (3.6 kilometers) and the Madoyo Course (7.4 kilometers).

Notably, this event is linked to Boseong County's ongoing projects: the 'Beolgyo to Jangdo Ecological Exploration Road Construction Project' (49.4 billion won) and the 'Boseong Beolgyo Mudflat Ecosystem Restoration Project' (7 billion won). It is expected to become a leading example of blue tourism, allowing visitors to closely observe migratory birds and various mudflat creatures.

Applications to participate in the 'Beolgyo Mudflat Leisure Mud Boat Race' and the 'Beolgyo Mudflat Trail Ecological Walking Competition' can be submitted via the Boseong County Office website's Naver form until the 18th. On the day of the event, on-site registration will be available until 10:30 a.m.

Additionally, there will be educational attractions such as the Beolgyo Mudflat Promotional Exhibition Hall and a seabird photo exhibition. With a variety of programs that combine hands-on experiences and learning, the festival is expected to receive an enthusiastic response from family visitors. Other activities include a mudflat futsal tournament, bare-handed fish catching, a mud boat experience zone, charcoal grilling experiences, and more, offering something for everyone to enjoy.

Chairman Kim Gildu of the Promotion Committee stated, "The 2025 Boseong Beolgyo Mudflat Festival is an opportunity to preserve and develop mudflat culture, as well as a meaningful occasion to directly experience the vitality and ecological joy of the region. I hope you will come with your children and enjoy a day of play and learning to the fullest."
