This event was organized to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of suicide prevention, eliminate social stigma surrounding suicide, and foster a shared understanding of suicide prevention, thereby promoting a suicide prevention culture within the local community.
More than 200 people, including members of the Cheongsong County walking self-help group, local residents, and tourists, participated in the event. A variety of programs were offered, including health exercises, a reading of the suicide prevention declaration, a walking event, promotional booth experiences, and a coffee truck service.
In particular, before the walking event began, a member of the G-Gonggamjigi group read the declaration, once again emphasizing the importance of suicide prevention. Participants then walked through Cheongsong Garden, where zinnias were in full bloom, spending meaningful time reflecting on the value of life.
Yoon Hongbae, Director of the Cheongsong County Public Health Center, stated, "I hope this walking event will help our citizens reaffirm the importance of life and serve as an opportunity for the entire community to adopt a proactive attitude toward suicide prevention. Since suicide is not just an individual issue but a societal one, the health center will take the lead in spreading a culture of respect for life and making Cheongsong County a safer place from suicide."
