After Four Years of Construction, Wanju Welcomes a New "Cultural Heritage Research Hub" National Wanju Cultural Heritage Research Institute Exterior View

The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage under the National Heritage Administration and the National Wanju Cultural Heritage Research Institute will hold a completion ceremony at 3:00 p.m. on September 10 at the newly constructed building in Iseo-myeon, Wanju-gun, North Jeolla Province.

Approximately 150 people, including Heo Min, Commissioner of the National Heritage Administration, Yoo Heetae, Governor of Wanju-gun, local government officials, and academic experts, will attend the event.

The National Wanju Cultural Heritage Research Institute had previously used a temporary office in the Samnye-eup Culture and Arts Village, which was leased free of charge from Wanju-gun. However, it faced challenges in conducting systematic investigation and research. To establish a new foundation, the institute purchased land in Jeonbuk Innovation City (Iseo-myeon, Wanju-gun) in 2021, and after about four years of construction, has now completed the new building.

The new facility is a one-story underground and two-story above-ground building, with a site area of 25,000 square meters and a total floor area of 6,693 square meters. It is equipped with a storage room for artifacts, conservation and treatment rooms, a research materials room, an exhibition hall, and seminar rooms. To allow the public to directly experience the cultural heritage of North Jeolla Province, a hands-on workshop and an open library have also been established. These facilities are scheduled to be opened to local residents next year.

An institute official stated, "We plan to invigorate the investigation and research of North Jeolla Province's cultural heritage, and to enhance the value of preservation and utilization of cultural heritage through cooperation with the local community."
