Jin Tae Kim, Governor of Gangwon Province, is holding a luncheon meeting with university students from Gangwon Province studying in the Seoul metropolitan area at Gangwon Dormitory in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, on the 5th. Provided by Gangwon Province Special Self-Governing Province
The meeting was attended by Governor Kim, the director of the Human Resources Institute, about 10 university students, and members of Suguhoe, the alumni association of Gangwon Dormitory graduates.
Gangwon Dormitory is a metropolitan dormitory operated to support housing stability for university students from Gangwon Province, and consists of two facilities: Gwanak Dormitory (capacity of 268) and Dobong Dormitory (capacity of 204).
Eligibility for admission is granted to those whose address, or the address of their legal guardian, is in Gangwon Province, and who have either graduated from a high school in the province or have lived there for more than three years.
The dormitory not only provides affordable accommodation, but also offers a variety of community activities, such as 24-hour access to study rooms, snacks during exam periods, career lectures, and volunteer activities.
At the meeting, one university student said, "When I first came to Seoul for university, my biggest concern was the cost of housing, but thanks to Gangwon Dormitory, I was able to feel at ease. I am so satisfied with dormitory life that even when I go home during vacations, I want to come back as soon as possible."
Governor Kim Jin-tae encouraged the students by saying, "The roommates and friends you meet here will become valuable connections when you enter society. When securing national funding, the provincial government always checks first whether there are people from Gangwon Province in the relevant ministries. There may come a day when we will also ask for your help."
He added, "Do not hesitate to pursue what you want to do or what you want to challenge yourself with. Your challenges and growth will directly contribute to the development of Gangwon Province."
Meanwhile, Gangwon Dormitory, established in 1975 as the nation's first local dormitory, has produced more than 6,000 graduates over the past 50 years. A ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on the 20th to commemorate its 50th anniversary.
