On September 5, President Lee Jaemyung ordered a report on cases of unfair treatment or unpaid wages involving foreign workers and instructed officials to establish support measures to prevent such incidents.
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yujeong stated during a briefing at the Yongsan presidential office that "President Lee, at a senior-level meeting this morning, directed a thorough investigation and systematic reporting on cases of unfair treatment or unpaid wages affecting foreign workers residing in Korea."
Kang continued, "(President Lee) emphasized that, in line with Korea's elevated status as a cultural nation rather than just a trading nation, foreigners staying in Korea must not be subjected to unfair treatment." She added, "He instructed that support measures be established and that a plan be prepared and submitted accordingly."
Regarding the renewed mention of unfair treatment of foreign workers, Kang explained, "(President Lee) said that during his phone call with the President of Mongolia yesterday, he expressed appreciation for the special attention given to Mongolian nationals and realized that Korea is now a country that contributes and provides support, rather than one that simply benefits from others." She added, "As he thanked the Mongolian leader and discussed the issue of unpaid wages, he noted the need to look after not only domestic workers but also foreign workers."
