Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Younghyun) announced on September 4 that it has been finally selected for the "2025 Special Situation Area Development Project" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing 10.2 billion won in national funding.
This public contest project is being promoted with the aim of improving the welfare of residents and achieving balanced development in regions that have been marginalized in terms of development due to geographical conditions and other factors. Pocheon City applied under the theme of "Expanding Tourism and Sports Infrastructure," and the "Hanyeoul Zip Rider Experience Tourism Facility Development Project" and the "Pocheon Idong Sports Park Development Project" were ultimately selected.
The "Hanyeoul Zip Rider Experience Tourism Facility Development Project" aims to establish an experiential tourism facility linked to the Hantangang Y-shaped Suspension Bridge by 2027. It is expected to offer tourists a variety of experience opportunities, thereby increasing their length of stay and contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
The "Pocheon Idong Sports Park Development Project" aims to construct a sports park, including a park golf course, in Jangam-ri, Idong-myeon, with completion targeted for 2027. The project is expected to expand opportunities for residents' sports and leisure activities and attract outside visitors, thereby invigorating the local economy.
Pocheon City Mayor Baek Younghyun stated, "Being selected for this contest will serve as an important milestone for Pocheon City to develop into a sustainable city," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to secure national and provincial funding to improve the quality of life for citizens and achieve balanced regional development."
This selection follows achievements in securing national funding in the education and housing sectors, demonstrating that Pocheon City's efforts to secure financial resources and its regional development strategies are bearing fruit.
