The Army is actively conducting support operations for the Gangneung area in Gangwon Province, which is experiencing a severe water shortage due to consecutive droughts.
According to the military on September 4, the Army has been mobilizing all available equipment, including water tankers, fire trucks, and decontamination vehicles, to provide water supply support to the Gangneung area since September 2. So far, a total of approximately 300 water supply vehicles and about 600 personnel have been deployed.
The supporting soldiers are operating water tankers to repeatedly transport water from more than 20 water intake sites, including Yeongokcheon in Gangneung, to the Obong Reservoir in Seongsan-myeon, contributing to overcoming the drought.
Brigadier General Lim Sangjin, head of the on-site command center, said, "In order to help stabilize the lives of local residents as quickly as possible, the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps will unite in strength and spirit to persistently support the effort until the Obong Reservoir is full."
Meanwhile, the Army plans to continue actively supporting local residents in overcoming the drought in close cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Gangneung City.
