Eighteen K-dramas, including "Lovely Runner,"
to be Dubbed in Local Languages and Released
CJ ENM is joining forces with Amazon to accelerate its entry into the Indian market. On September 3, the company announced that starting from September 8, it will sequentially provide eighteen K-dramas-including "Lovely Runner," "My Lovely Liar," "Wedding Impossible," "Twinkling Watermelon," and "Delightfully Deceitful"-on Amazon's ad-supported free OTT platform in India, MX Player. All titles will be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu for local viewers.
This marks the first collaboration announced since Amazon acquired MX Player last year. India, with the world's largest population, is experiencing a rapid increase in OTT users. The market is growing primarily through low-cost subscription plans and ad-supported free models. As the expansion of digital infrastructure accelerates, the industry regards India as "the market with the greatest potential."
Amazon has chosen K-dramas as a key driver to increase its market share. Amogh Dusad, Content Director at MX Player, said, "Demand for Korean dramas is rapidly growing in India." Kim Dohyun, Head of Global Content Distribution at CJ ENM, stated, "We aim to connect more deeply with Indian viewers through globally acclaimed titles."
CJ ENM is also achieving success through local remakes. "Duranga," the remake of "Flower of Evil," has been produced up to season 2 on the OTT platform ZEE5, and "Gyaara Gyaara," an adaptation of "Signal," became one of the most popular local titles last year.
A CJ ENM representative commented, "Following our strategic partnership with Amazon Prime Video in May, this collaboration with MX Player will further expand the global reach of K-content."
