Mandarin Oriental Enters Korea for the First Time... Seoul Station North Complex Development Gains Momentum Mandarin Oriental New York. Hanwha.

On September 4, Hanwha announced that it has selected Mandarin Oriental as its hotel partner for the Seoul Station North Station Area Complex Development and has signed an operating agreement. Under this agreement, 'Mandarin Oriental Seoul,' featuring 128 rooms and suites, is scheduled to open in 2030. This marks the brand’s first entry into the Korean market.

The new hotel at Seoul Station will feature interiors designed by world-renowned architect Andre Fu, creating a space reminiscent of a private club. The upper floors will house international dining options as well as Korean and Chinese restaurants. A four-story spa and wellness area will offer programs inspired by traditional Korean culture. Additional amenities targeting global business travelers will include a swimming pool, fitness center, golf academy, and banquet halls.

Mandarin Oriental is a luxury hospitality group operating 44 hotels worldwide, including in Hong Kong, New York, and Paris. The group stated that it chose Seoul Station as its first location in Korea, highly valuing its geographic and cultural significance as a hub and its future growth potential.

The Seoul Station North Station Area Complex Development is considered a transformative project that goes beyond simple land utilization to reshape the urban structure itself. The project will be built on approximately 30,000 square meters in Bongnae-dong 2-ga, Jung-gu, and will feature five buildings with a total floor area of 340,000 square meters, ranging from six underground levels to 39 stories above ground. It will be developed as a mixed-use complex combining offices, MICE facilities, hotels, residences, commercial, and cultural spaces.

This development will connect areas previously divided by the railway, creating a pedestrian corridor from Seosomun Park through Namsan and Namdaemun to City Hall Station. It is expected to become a new business hub, distinct from the traditional CBD centered on Jongno and Euljiro.

The construction division of Hanwha stated, "The Seoul Station North Station Area Development is a landmark project that will enhance the brand value of Seoul," adding, "Through our collaboration with Mandarin Oriental, we aim to provide a world-class luxury hospitality experience in the heart of Seoul."
