Included as Part of the Past Five Years' Award-Winning Works
The controversial cartoon 'Yoon Seokyeol Car,' which satirized former President Yoon Seokyeol and his wife, will be exhibited again at the Bucheon International Comics Festival.
The Korea Manhwa Contents Agency announced on September 3 that it will showcase past winning works from the Student Cartoon Contest at the Bucheon International Comics Festival, which will be held from September 26 to 28 around the Korea Manhwa Museum in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. The exhibition will feature award-winning works from 2021 to 2025, including 'Yoon Seokyeol Car,' which won the Gold Prize in 2022.
The piece depicts a train with the face of former President Yoon Seokyeol prominently displayed at the front. A woman, presumed to be his wife Kim Keonhee, is shown in the driver's seat, while prosecutors wielding swords are seated in the passenger cars. Citizens in front of the train are seen fleeing in shock.
After being released at the 2022 Bucheon International Comics Festival, the work became embroiled in political controversy, resulting in a two-year suspension from exhibition. At the time, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a stern warning to the agency, revoked its sponsorship status, and significantly reduced its government subsidies.
A representative from the Korea Manhwa Contents Agency commented on this exhibition, stating, "As we decided to showcase the winning works from the past five years, 'Yoon Seokyeol Car' was also included."
