On September 4, LG Chem announced that it will exclusively distribute the "UK Taurokit 2% Injection (Taurokit)" in South Korea, a product developed by UK Chemipharm Co., Ltd. and recently approved for sale. Building on its business in musculoskeletal treatments containing hyaluronic acid (HA), such as Synovian and Hiruan Plus, LG Chem has established a robust customer network in the musculoskeletal field. The company stated that it is launching Taurokit to meet the demand for user-friendly surgical antimicrobials used in musculoskeletal surgeries.

The main ingredient in Taurokit, taurolidine, is a substance derived from taurine, a naturally occurring amino acid in the body. It irreversibly binds to the cell walls of microorganisms, generating active antimicrobial derivatives. Taurokit can be used as a surgical site irrigation solution to prevent infections during procedures such as peritonitis, bone and soft tissue injuries, and pleural empyema surgeries.

Taurokit is manufactured entirely in South Korea, from raw materials to finished product, ensuring a high level of supply stability. In this market, where the number of related products is limited and supply instability is a constant risk, UK Chemipharm's stable production environment is expected to be a significant advantage.

Taurokit was developed with a primary focus on the urgent and high-pressure environment of the operating room. UK Chemipharm reflected customer feedback to design a differentiated container, allowing medical professionals to dilute and prepare the injection solution easily, quickly, and safely.

The product reduced the previous three-step cap opening process to two steps, enabling faster preparation of the injection solution. It also features an easy-to-open screw cap and a sturdy mounting hook, further enhancing user convenience and surgical focus. In addition, the container is made from lightweight and highly recyclable polypropylene (PP), making it easier to transport, store, and dispose of compared to traditional glass bottles. The sealing material was also changed from sharp aluminum to PP to minimize the risk of skin abrasions, such as scratches, when opening the cap.

Minyoung Choi, Chief Operating Officer of UK Chemipharm Co., Ltd., stated, "Taurokit is a product that further enhances safety and efficiency, enabling medical professionals to focus more on surgery. Through our collaboration with LG Chem, we will do our best to ensure that both medical staff and patients experience positive changes by providing rapid and stable supply to hospitals nationwide."

Incheol Hwang, Head of the Primary Care Division at LG Chem, said, "We have conducted in-depth analysis of customer needs in clinical settings for a long time, and we are introducing and launching Taurokit as a solution. Through our partnership with UK Chemipharm, we will actively promote the differentiated competitiveness of Taurokit."

Meanwhile, UK Chemipharm Co., Ltd. is a specialized pharmaceutical company focused on infection prevention, continuously introducing various kit-type pharmaceuticals, including South Korea's first integrated kit antibiotic (a sterile combination of antibiotic and infusion solution) and half-kit type infusions designed for convenient preparation.
