The body was found by the captain of a fishing vessel who was on his way out to work from the Wando New Port pier and reported it to the maritime police. Upon receiving the report, the Wando Maritime Police dispatched the Wando Police Substation Coastal Rescue Boat, the Wando Maritime Police Rescue Team, and the Maritime Disaster Rescue Team to the scene, recovering the body at 6:25 a.m. that day.

The identity of the deceased, initially unknown, was confirmed through a comparison with a missing person report as Mr. A, a 68-year-old tugboat captain from Busan, whose vessel was anchored in Wando Port.

The missing person report was filed by the tugboat’s chief engineer. The engineer reportedly searched for Mr. A for breakfast but, unable to find him, alerted the police.

The maritime police are currently investigating the exact cause of death.
