The Doosan Wind Power Center, which manages and supervises wind turbines nationwide in real time, opened on September 3 in Ora-dong, Jeju City as a result of collaboration between the public and private sectors. The launch of this center is a key achievement of the energy agreement signed last year between Jeju Province and Doosan Enerbility, and it is being recognized as an important forward base for the transition to eco-friendly energy.
This two-story center, with a total floor area of 496.34 square meters (150 pyeong), is the first integrated wind power control center in Korea. It analyzes operational data to prevent generator failures in advance and increase operational efficiency.
Doosan Enerbility has been actively involved in the wind power business since 2005, supplying a total of 347.5MW of wind turbines domestically to date, and has played a crucial role in expanding renewable energy in Jeju Province. The company has also been proactive in hiring local talent, with 25 out of the 30 newly hired employees (83%) being from Jeju.
In his congratulatory remarks, Governor Oh Younghoon stated, "Jeju Province aims to raise the share of renewable energy to 70% by 2035 and produce 60,000 tons of green hydrogen annually," adding, "The opening of the Doosan Wind Power Center will serve as a key hub to support this vision on the ground."
In his welcome speech, Doosan Enerbility CEO Jung Yeonin said, "It is meaningful to open a nationwide integrated wind power hub in Jeju, where the country's first offshore wind farm was established," and added, "With this center, big data and artificial intelligence (AI)-based predictive diagnostics and maintenance will be possible, enabling more efficient and stable operations."
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony was attended by Governor Oh Younghoon, Lee Sangbong, Chairman of the Jeju Provincial Council, Yang Youngsik, Chairman of the Agriculture, Fisheries, Livestock, and Economy Committee, Kim Ilhwan, President of Jeju National University, Doosan Enerbility CEO Jung Yeonin, executives from power generation companies, local residents, and about 150 others.
