Improved Convenience for Tenant Companies
with Enhanced Safety Facilities and
Better Access for Large Cargo Trucks
The Daejeon Integrated Logistics Complex, established in 2003 in Daejeon’s Yuseong-gu Daejeong-dong area, will undergo redevelopment after 20 years to better support business activities and enhance safety.
The Daejeon city government announced on August 29 the final notice of the “Daejeon Integrated Logistics Complex Redevelopment Plan (Revised),” which was finalized last month to respond to the changing logistics industry environment.
The Daejeon Integrated Logistics Complex was built in 2003 on a 460,000-square-meter site and currently serves as a key regional hub, housing 25 logistics and distribution companies, including Hanjin Daejeon Smart Mega Hub Terminal and Moda Outlet.
However, as 20 years have passed since its completion, there have been ongoing calls for improvements due to inconveniences with large cargo trucks entering and exiting the complex, as well as aging infrastructure.
Since launching a service contract in February last year, the city conducted a current status survey, analyzed conditions, and held briefing sessions to gather feedback from tenant companies and residents, which was reflected in the redevelopment plan.
With this announcement, the city will implement several improvements: relaxing building height standards for logistics facilities (maximizing the use of rooftop parking lots), adjusting restricted sections for vehicle entry and exit in the warehouse district (improving large cargo truck access), and upgrading roads and intersections.
In addition, the city updated related laws and terminology, such as district unit plans, to strengthen the institutional foundation.
Notably, this project will be carried out through a private implementation method, with Hanjin Corporation and Daejeon Jinjam Agricultural Cooperative bearing the facility improvement costs. As a result, companies will be able to improve their own business environment and contribute to revitalizing the local economy without financial burden on the city.
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo stated, “Through this redevelopment plan, we will address the inconveniences faced by tenant companies and further strengthen the competitiveness of the logistics industry by leveraging Daejeon’s advantage as a national transportation hub. Going forward, we will do our utmost to support companies, improve convenience for workers and residents, and create jobs to help vitalize the regional economy.”
