Shinhan University has recognized that, as artificial intelligence and digital technologies rapidly advance and career choices become increasingly complex, the importance of human-centered, personalized career counseling services is growing even more significant.
In particular, surveys of both new and current students have consistently shown that more than 60% each year expect “detailed guidance on career paths and employment” from their academic advisors, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen the career counseling expertise of the faculty.
Since 2019, when the university began by training 12 faculty members for the Level 2 Career Counselor certification, Shinhan University has produced a total of 14 certified counselors this year alone-6 at Level 2 and 8 at Level 1. Over the past six years, the cumulative number of full-time faculty members who have obtained career counselor certifications has reached 77 (57 at Level 2 and 20 at Level 1). After completing the training, these faculty members are able to provide professional career counseling using the latest assessment tools, including: Multiple Intelligence Test, Holland Aptitude Test, Career Counseling using Occupational Cards, CTI Career Thought Inventory, MLST-2 Learning Strategy Test, and CST Character Strength Test. By applying these up-to-date career counseling theories in their sessions with students, the university is able to offer more scientific and systematic career guidance.
President Kang Sungjong stated, “We expect that enhancing the career counseling expertise of Shinhan University’s lifelong academic advisors will significantly increase both student satisfaction with counseling and the rate of career decision-making. In particular, personalized career guidance tailored to each student’s individual characteristics will strengthen both their ability to adapt to university life and their competitiveness in the job market.”
Lee Hyunjong, Director of the Shinhan University Student Counseling Center, added, “Going forward, we will continue to improve the training curriculum and expand counseling support programs so that lifelong academic advisors can develop career counseling competencies that meet the demands of a changing era.”
