Yeonggwang County, Jeollanam-do recently participated in the "2025 Creative Farming and Returning to Hometown Love Expo (A farm show)" hosted by Dong-A Ilbo in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, where it promoted returning to farming and rural living to urban residents.
At this expo, Yeonggwang County highlighted its excellent local agricultural environment and quality of life, providing customized consultations for those interested in relocating to rural areas or returning to farming.
The county also introduced a variety of support policies to help newcomers settle in the early stages of returning to farming, as well as practical information about the daily lives of actual returnees. These efforts attracted significant interest from participants, leading Yeonggwang County to receive the Outstanding Local Government Award.
An official from Yeonggwang County stated, "Yeonggwang County offers the best conditions for those wishing to return to farming or rural living, with its pristine natural environment and abundant agricultural infrastructure. In particular, we are promoting the Yeonggwang-style basic energy income model, the first in the country to share profits from solar and wind power generation with residents. Moving forward, we will continue to participate in various expos and provide on-site consultations so that more urban residents can choose Yeonggwang County as the optimal destination for returning to farming or rural life."
Meanwhile, Yeonggwang County operates systematic support policies such as settlement support projects for returnees, assistance for farmland purchases and home repairs, technical education, and mentoring. These efforts have contributed to the annual increase in the number of people relocating to the county for farming and rural living.
