The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters reported a significant decrease in fires at lodging facilities following the implementation of the "Fire Safety Week for Lodging Facilities" held in July and August.
The headquarters announced on September 2 that during the month-long "2025 Fire Safety Week for Lodging Facilities," which took place from July 22 to August 22, the number of fires at lodging facilities in the province dropped by 33% compared to the same period last year, and there were no casualties reported.
This special initiative was launched to mark the first anniversary of the "Bucheon Hotel Fire Disaster," which resulted in 19 casualties in August of last year.

Based on lessons learned from the Bucheon disaster, the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters conducted on-site safety guidance and fire drills at 5,042 lodging facilities throughout the province.
During this period, the chief of each local fire station personally visited the sites to inspect vulnerable factors such as the management of heating and cooling equipment and electrical appliances, illegal structural modifications, and the availability of evacuation routes and emergency exits. In addition to consulting, joint drills were also conducted to enhance response capabilities.
A total of 2,254 people from 343 lodging facilities participated in the training, practicing initial fire suppression and evacuation procedures as if in real-life situations.
Kim Jaebyung, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "There can be no exceptions when it comes to the safety of our residents. Lodging facilities are not just places to rest, but spaces where lives must be protected. We will thoroughly manage even the smallest fire hazards to create an environment where all residents can stay safely."
