The district announced on September 2 that it will carry out physical fitness and health assessments at the Seo-gu Physical Fitness Certification Center (4th floor of the Public Health Center) over a total of six sessions, held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for two weeks, until September 5.

This initiative was launched to assess the health status of seniors and contribute to the sustainability of their job activities and improvement in quality of life. The physical fitness assessment covers six areas: upper and lower body muscular strength, flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance, balance, and coordination. The health assessment includes eight items: blood pressure, blood sugar, triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, bone density, and body composition, providing a comprehensive overview of the seniors' basic health status.

The district will provide each individual with their assessment results and offer customized exercise and health management guidelines that can be practiced in daily life. If additional care is needed, support will be provided in collaboration with relevant departments at the public health center. The district also plans to continuously manage the seniors' health by analyzing pre- and post-assessment data on physical fitness changes.

Seo-gu District Mayor Kim Ikang stated, "Through this project, which addresses both employment and health, I hope our seniors can enjoy a more active and safe retirement," adding, "We will continue to actively promote welfare and health improvement policies tailored for seniors."

Meanwhile, since its opening in 2020, the Gwangju Seo-gu Physical Fitness Certification Center has been providing health services through collaboration with public health center programs and public and private institutions, systematically managing physical fitness data to help improve the health of district residents.

In recognition of these achievements, the center was awarded the top prize for two consecutive years in the '2023 National Fitness 100 Project Evaluation,' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation.
