Ordinance on Foodtech Industry Promotion in Incheon
Proposed by Parks Pansoon of the Culture and Welfare Committee
An institutional foundation will be established for building and supporting a foodtech ecosystem tailored to Incheon.
According to the Incheon City Council on September 2, Parks Pansoon, a member of the Culture and Welfare Committee (National Proportional Representation), sponsored the "Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of the Foodtech Industry in Incheon," which passed the standing committee review the previous day.
The ordinance bill includes provisions for supporting the creation of a foodtech cluster, establishing and organizing a development committee, building a cooperative system for the promotion and support of the foodtech industry, defining the responsibilities of the mayor, and setting out plans for the industry.
Parks Pansoon explained, "Recently, food consumption trends have shifted toward a focus on the environment and health, personalized consumption, and the activation of non-face-to-face services. Foodtech is gaining attention as a solution to address global environmental issues and food security crises. This ordinance was established to build a foodtech ecosystem unique to Incheon and support the foodtech industry, thereby improving the productivity of Incheon's agriculture, livestock, and fisheries industries and increasing farmers' incomes."
She also stated, "Since the Seo-gu district of Incheon is home to 'I-FOOD Park Food Industry Complex,' the first food industry complex in the metropolitan area, I hope this ordinance will lay the foundation for creating a foodtech innovation cluster."
The ordinance bill is scheduled for a final vote at the plenary session on September 9.
