On September 1 (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that the popularity of Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, has surged after he declared Washington, D.C. a "CRIME FREE ZONE."

On this day, President Trump stated on his self-created social networking service, Truth Social, "Mayor Muriel Bowser, together with me and my wonderful people, has virtually eliminated crime in Washington," making this announcement.

He added, "Mayor Bowser's remarks and actions have been positive, and unlike Pritzker (the governor of Illinois), Wes Moore (the governor of Maryland), Newscom (a derogatory term referring to California Governor Gavin Newsom), and the Chicago mayor whose approval rating is only 5 percent," emphasizing, "While they waste time justifying violent crime, we have completely eradicated crime in Washington, D.C." He continued, "The same can happen, and very quickly, in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and even in Baltimore, a city plagued by crime," and added, "Join us."

He also claimed that Mayor Bowser's approval rating had risen by 25 percent in a short period, stating, "This is not a miracle, but the result of effort, courage, and SMART."

In addition, President Trump said, "Congratulations to Mayor Muriel Bowser," and advised, "Do not go down the 'Woke' path (a term used by conservatives to mock progressives for being socially aware)." He stressed, "Washington, D.C. is a great victory that will never end."

Previously, President Trump deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C. under the pretext of a war on crime. He also stated that he could send troops to Baltimore (Maryland), Oakland (California), New York (New York), and Chicago (Illinois) to crack down on crime. Since all these cities are strongholds for Democratic supporters, some interpret President Trump's actions as being politically motivated.
