Regarding the ground operations in the Gaza Strip over the past six months, a report containing negative assessments has emerged from within the Israeli military.
According to N12 News and The Times of Israel on September 1 (local time), a report prepared in anticipation of the cabinet's recent decision to take control of Gaza City in northern Gaza was distributed last week to several brigades through the Ground Operations Intelligence Center (IOC).
The report criticized the Israeli military's resumed ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, called "Gideon's Chariots," which began after ceasefire negotiations with the Palestinian armed group Hamas broke down in March. It stated, "Israel has waged a war that goes against its own doctrine and has made every possible mistake." The report pointed out that the Israeli military supplied resources to the enemy through humanitarian aid, exhausted its troops by engaging in combat without proper management of time and resources, and ultimately lost international support.
In particular, it highlighted the problem that inadequate delivery of relief supplies allowed Hamas to use the hunger crisis in the Gaza Strip as a tool for propaganda. It also criticized the Israeli military for repeatedly conducting slow-paced operations in the same areas, focusing more on preserving its forces than achieving mission objectives, and failing to effectively respond to Hamas's guerrilla tactics.
However, the report did acknowledge some achievements, such as the destruction of Hamas infrastructure and the damage inflicted on its leadership through the "Gideon's Chariots" operation. It also noted that military pressure led to an increase in the number of hostages Hamas was willing to release and lowered Hamas's demands at the ceasefire negotiation table.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced that this document was distributed without official authorization and has launched an investigation into the matter.
