Recruiting Family Participants on Weekends Until November 16
Experience the Life and Hardships of a Salt Worker at Sorae Salt Field During the Japanese Colonial Era
Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province will host the family-oriented nighttime experience event "Hojodul and Yeombudeul" at the Gaetgol Ecological Park from September 6 to November 16, 2025.
This program is an experiential tourism content that combines the ecological resources of Gaetgol and the historical value of the old Sorae Salt Field warehouse. The program was organized with a budget of 150 million won, supported by Gyeonggi Province's convergence tourism content development contest.
The program will recruit family participants with children aged 6 to 10 and will be held 20 times on weekends. It is designed to offer a time-travel experience to the past, depicting the life and hardships of a fictional character, Jang Manbok, a salt worker at the Sorae Salt Field during the Japanese colonial period.
The program consists of three main activities: a three-color sensory experience program, a participatory outdoor play called "The Salt Farmer's Way Home" performed on the salt field, and floating wish lanterns on the salt field. In particular, nighttime landscape lighting will be installed outside the salt warehouse, which is designated as a Gyeonggi Province cultural asset, so visitors can enjoy a unique night view.
Further details and participation applications can be found on the program's dedicated website.
Siheung City Mayor Lim Byeongtaek stated, "This program will help promote the lives of residents and historical spaces, and serve as an opportunity for Gaetgol Ecological Park to become the best historical and ecological tourist destination in the metropolitan area." He added, "We will continue to develop diverse tourism content to showcase the value and charm of Gaetgol to citizens and visitors."
