Accelerating Efforts to Improve Residential Environments in Aging Neighborhoods

Yongsan-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Park Heeyoung) announced on August 31 that the area of 1-1351, Yongsan-dong 2-ga has been newly selected as a candidate site for the city's "Rapid Integrated Planning" housing redevelopment project. With this latest selection, Yongsan-gu now has a total of eight candidate sites, accelerating efforts to create a pleasant residential environment by renovating aging housing areas.

The newly selected site at 1-1351, Yongsan-dong 2-ga (43,016.7 square meters) is a densely populated low-rise residential area with a low road access rate and a high density of housing units. Development in this area has been delayed due to height restrictions imposed by Namsan, making the improvement of the residential environment an urgent matter. The district plans to establish a customized renovation plan that reflects the local characteristics and conditions in order to promote efficient redevelopment.

Yongsan-gu has actively responded to the "Rapid Integrated Planning Housing Redevelopment Project," a core policy of the Seoul Metropolitan Government. To date, a total of eight sites have been selected as candidate areas: Cheongpa District 2, Seogye-dong Integrated District, Donghuam Districts 1 and 3, Hannam District 1, Cheongpa District 3, Sinchang-dong 29-1, and 1-1351, Yongsan-dong 2-ga. Among these, Cheongpa District 2 and Seogye-dong Integrated District have completed district designation and are currently proceeding with subsequent steps such as the establishment of resident associations.

Park Heeyoung, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, "As a result of providing active administrative support and guidance, particularly in areas where residents are highly motivated to participate in the renovation project, we have achieved the additional selection of this candidate site." She added, "Going forward, we will continue to actively support all administrative procedures so that areas in need of renovation, and where residents are strongly committed, can proceed with projects in a timely manner. We will also work closely with related organizations to ensure smooth progress."
