Seocho District Launches "AI Academy" for Youth and Adults

Seocho District in Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seongsu) announced on August 31 that it will launch the "Seocho AI Academy" in September to enhance residents' understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and their ability to use it ethically in this rapidly changing AI era.

Seocho District Launches "AI Academy" for Youth and Adults Provided by Seocho District.

This academy will offer age-specific, hands-on curricula for both youth and adults, providing opportunities to experience AI-powered creative activities such as writing, drawing, and music.

To operate the educational program, Seocho District signed a work agreement in July with Seoul National University of Education, Electronic Times, and ET Edu Co., Ltd., with each institution taking responsibility for development, promotion, and instructor placement. The educational courses include: the youth class "Becoming a Webtoon Creator with AI" (September 20 and 27, 16 hours offline, 40 participants) and the adult class "Writing Poetry and Composing Music with AI" (September 20, 2 hours, 20 participants). All sessions will be held at Seoul National University of Education, which will provide hands-on equipment so participants can create their own works.

After the program, participants' works will be released to the public through an exhibition in the district office lobby. Applications are accepted free of charge until September 14 via the district office website or the education application page (edu.ggumeasy.com) accessible through the QR code on promotional posters. Selected participants will be contacted individually.

Seocho District is also running an "AI Instructor Training Program" for parents and women returning to the workforce, as well as an "AI Competency Test-Based Talent Development Program" for young adults, aiming to expand AI education and create jobs in the community.

Jeon Seongsu, Mayor of Seocho District, stated, "This program is an opportunity to experience AI not just as a 'technology to use,' but as a 'tool for creativity and problem-solving.' We will continue to offer a variety of educational programs to help residents proactively respond to technological change."
