The Seoul Metropolitan Government will offer discounted Climate Companion Card benefits to teenagers. In addition, ahead of the official launch of the Han River bus, the city will introduce a special “Unlimited Han River Bus” card to enhance convenience for citizens.

On August 31, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that, starting September 14, it will expand customized discounts for the Climate Companion Card and release a new type of Han River bus pass.

First, discounts for the Climate Companion Card will be provided to teenagers, parents with multiple children, and low-income households. The monthly fare will range from approximately 40,000 to 50,000 won, with the maximum discount increasing to around 17,000 won. For a standard 30-day pass, the rates are as follows: 55,000 won for teenagers, 55,000 won for parents with two children, 45,000 won for parents with three children, and 45,000 won for low-income households. The teenage discount is being introduced as part of Seoul’s “Regulatory Reform No. 91” policy, reflecting ongoing requests from citizens. With these expanded discounts, the city expects not only to promote eco-friendly transportation but also to help citizens who require support for social activities by effectively reducing transportation costs.

The teenage discount is designed to ease the transportation cost burden for 13 to 18-year-olds, who previously had to pay the same fare as adults. Eligible individuals can verify their qualifications on the Tmoney Card & Pay website, and to prevent misuse, the “one person, one card” rule will apply, just as it does for youth benefits. Only one card-either a mobile or physical card registered by the beneficiary-can receive the discount. Annual qualification verification on the Tmoney Card & Pay website is required to maintain the benefit. Residents of local governments participating in the Climate Companion Card policy in the metropolitan area will also receive the same benefits. Residents of Seoul, Gimpo, Namyangju, Guri, Gwacheon, Goyang, Seongnam, and Hanam can access discounts for parents with multiple children and low-income households.

A new “Han River Bus Pass,” which allows unlimited rides on the Han River bus, will also be introduced. With this new mode of transportation included in the Climate Companion Card program, the city expects to diversify mobility options and boost tourism.

The Han River Bus Pass will be available as a 30-day pass, and for an additional 5,000 won on top of the existing fare, users can enjoy unlimited rides on the Han River bus. The city plans to actively consider launching short-term Han River bus passes in the future, based on usage patterns and citizen demand. The pass can be recharged starting September 14, the same day as the launch of the customized discounts and before the official opening of the Han River bus. Citizens currently using other passes can receive a refund and switch to the Han River Bus Pass.

To celebrate the opening of the Han River bus, a “pre-charge event” will be held from September 1 to 17. After registering for the event on the Tmoney Card & Pay website, participants can complete the pre-charge between September 14 and 17. Yeo Jangkwon, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Transportation Bureau, stated, “We expect the expanded Climate Companion Card discounts and the introduction of the Han River Bus Pass to encourage citizens to use public transportation and promote eco-friendly lifestyles. We will continue to develop transportation policies that citizens can truly experience, further enhancing convenience in the future.”
