The 9th Yeosu Music Festival, held to wish for the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, opened on August 30 at Yeulmaru, GS Caltex Yeosu. The event will continue until September 6.


At the opening ceremony, more than 1,000 people attended, including Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, Chung Kimyung, Mayor of Yeosu, members of the National Assembly and Jeollanam-do Council representing Yeosu, and music enthusiasts. Together, they celebrated the 9th Yeosu Music Festival and wished for the success of the international event, the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, to be held next year.


The opening performance, which drew high expectations and was sold out, captivated the audience with a sophisticated and highly accomplished stage. Pianist Fujita Mao, known as the "Mozart of the East," and the KBS Symphony Orchestra delivered a harmonious performance under the delicate baton of Chung Myungwhun.


Governor Kim Youngrok congratulated the opening of the Yeosu Music Festival, stating, "I hope this music festival will serve as a prelude to the great success of next year's Yeosu World Island Expo."


Starting with this opening event, the Yeosu Music Festival will continue until September 6, featuring performances by "the dancing conductor" Baek Yunhak, "the authentic French pianist" Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, "Phantom Singer winner" tenor Yoo Chaehun, and a closing concert with Leonidas Kavakos.
