Comprehensive Measures in Response to the Gaza War
Turkey announced on August 29 (local time) that it has completely halted trade with Israel and banned Israeli ships from docking, in response to Israel's war in the Gaza Strip.
According to major foreign news outlets such as dpa, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated in the Turkish parliament on the same day, "We have completely stopped trade with Israel," and added, "We do not allow Turkish ships to dock at Israeli ports."
Minister Fidan further stated, "We also do not permit aircraft to fly through our airspace."
Minister Fidan explained that these measures are part of a comprehensive package of diplomatic, legal, and economic actions implemented by the government in response to Israel's war in Gaza.
Turkey has strongly criticized Israel's attack on the Gaza Strip, referring to it as "genocide," a policy of extermination targeting a specific group. Israel has rejected such criticism.
The trade volume between Turkey and Israel reached 7 billion dollars (approximately 9.7 trillion won) in 2023, but all bilateral trade was completely suspended starting in May 2024, following the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7, 2023.
