Efforts to Enhance Community Safety and Patrol Efficiency

Jung-gu District in Seoul (Mayor Kim Gilseong) announced on the 29th that it plans to reorganize patrol routes for each neighborhood in collaboration with the police, based on the results of "patrol route big data analysis" conducted using artificial intelligence (AI). Through this initiative, Jung-gu aims to intensively manage areas with high crime rates and enhance patrol efficiency, thereby strengthening resident safety.

Jung-gu recently shared the results of the patrol route big data analysis, which was commissioned to the Seoul AI Foundation, with its autonomous crime prevention volunteers. The analysis utilized 17 types of spatial and administrative data, including crime statistics and floating population figures.

In addition, on the 28th, the district held an event to present commendations to 19 autonomous crime prevention volunteers who have contributed to community crime prevention and public safety. More than 40 volunteers, including the awardees, attended the event. The commendations recognized not only those who have served consistently for over 20 years, but also volunteers who have contributed to various social initiatives, such as transporting test-takers on the day of the College Scholastic Ability Test, in addition to their regular patrol duties. Currently, there are 13 teams and 199 autonomous crime prevention volunteers active in Jung-gu.

The autonomous crime prevention unit is a civilian public safety cooperation organization operated voluntarily by residents. Its members conduct nighttime patrols in high-risk areas in collaboration with the police. In particular, on the day of the annual College Scholastic Ability Test, they have earned the community's trust by safely transporting students at risk of being late to the test centers by motorcycle.

Kim Gilseong, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, "I deeply appreciate the volunteers who have quietly protected the safety and daily lives of our residents," adding, "We will utilize patrol big data to protect resident safety more scientifically and thoroughly."
