Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province will host the 13th Uljin Geumgang Pine National Table Tennis Tournament from August 29 to 31, spanning three days at the Uljin County Gymnasium and Uljin Table Tennis Stadium.
This tournament, organized and hosted by the Uljin County Sports Council and the Uljin County Table Tennis Association, is expected to attract around 800 amateur table tennis players from across the country who will compete and showcase their skills.
The competition will feature four categories: large ball, men's and women's singles, mixed men's and women's doubles, and team events. Notably, the tournament includes a large ball event, which adjusts the size and weight of the ball for seniors, and a beginner team event designed for those new to table tennis. These diverse events aim to promote physical fitness and broaden participation in the sport.
Table tennis is a sport that demands intense concentration and agility on a small ball, requiring both meticulous strategy and split-second decision-making. Through the fast-paced rallies and mutual exchanges, table tennis has become more than just a competition; it serves as a platform for harmony and communication, making it a beloved recreational sport that people of all ages and genders can easily learn and enjoy.
County Governor Son Byeongbok stated, "Table tennis is a high-intensity sport with relatively low risk of injury, making it enjoyable for people of all ages. I hope this tournament will serve as an opportunity to promote the health of local residents and strengthen the bonds among enthusiasts."
The county plans to actively promote its optimal conditions, including administrative support and well-equipped sports facilities, as part of an aggressive sports marketing strategy. In addition, Uljin County will accelerate preparations for the upcoming 2025 Uljin Geumgang Pine National Marathon and the 3rd Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Golf National Tournament, both scheduled for September, further developing these events as key drivers of regional economic growth.
