KOSPI Turns Upward During Session on Net Buying by Institutions and Foreigners Yonhap News

The KOSPI turned upward during the session, supported by net buying from institutional and foreign investors.


As of 10:23 a.m. on August 28, the KOSPI was trading at 3,199.34, up 0.38% from the previous day.


By investor type, institutions and foreigners recorded net purchases of 60.6 billion won and 81.1 billion won, respectively, while individuals posted net sales of 152 billion won. In the futures market, institutions and individuals posted net sales of 335.1 billion won and 166.5 billion won, respectively, while foreigners recorded net purchases of 485.5 billion won.


By sector, performances were mixed. The securities sector rose 4.44%, insurance 2.9%, finance 2.74%, food, beverage & tobacco 1.64%, retail 1.33%, transportation & storage 0.81%, transportation equipment 0.68%, paper & wood 0.58%, and non-metallic minerals 0.36%. In contrast, the entertainment & culture sector fell 2.11%, while general services dropped 0.72%, telecommunications 0.63%, electrical & electronics 0.63%, and construction 0.54%.


Among large-cap stocks by market capitalization, performances were also mixed. Samsung Electronics declined 0.71%, LG Energy Solution 1.47%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries 2.5%, Doosan Enerbility 0.24%, NAVER 0.23%, and Hanwha Ocean 0.36%. On the other hand, SK Hynix rose 0.58%, Hanwha Aerospace 1.76%, Hyundai Motor 1.59%, KB Financial Group 1.57%, Kia 2.61%, and Celltrion 0.59%.


The KOSDAQ index, which started lower on this day, continued to weaken due to net selling by institutions and foreigners. The KOSDAQ was trading at 798.94, down 0.35% from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners posted net sales of 1.8 billion won and 61.7 billion won, respectively, while individuals recorded net purchases of 66.2 billion won.


Most large-cap stocks on the KOSDAQ were weak. Alteogen fell 0.24%, Ecopro BM 2.15%, Peptron 0.78%, Ecopro 2.55%, PharmaResearch 1.14%, LIG ChemBio 0.8%, Rainbow Robotics 3.66%, ABL Bio 1.48%, and Hugel 0.47%. In contrast, HLB rose 1.33% and Samchundang Pharm 1.91%.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate was trading at 1,389.5 won, down 4.7 won from the previous day.
