Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will launch a full-scale Yongcheonsu preservation program in the villages of Jocheon-ri, Yerae-dong (Sangye 1-dong), and Ilgwa 2-ri (Seorim Youth Association), which have been selected as the first sites for the "Yongcheonsu Excellence Certification Village Support Project."

The Yongcheonsu Excellence Certification Village Support Project is being implemented for the first time this year to preserve Jeju's unique natural, ecological, historical, and cultural values, and to systematically manage Yongcheonsu spring water.

The three villages selected for the project in June are running a variety of programs that utilize the characteristics of each village and Yongcheonsu, including environmental clean-up, resident education, and the creation of tourism content.

Jocheon-ri Village will hold the "4th Join Us Jocheon-ri Yongcheonsu History and Culture Festival" on September 13 and 14. Notably, all 11 festival guides are local residents.

Residents who have completed seven sessions of guide training will lead Yongcheonsu village exploration tours for visitors arriving at Yeonbukjeong by 10 a.m. on September 14, during the festival's hands-on activities, vividly sharing the history of Yongcheonsu.

Additionally, existing Yongcheonsu information signs will be used to create QR code-based multilingual guide content, making it easy for both domestic and international tourists to access information.

Yerae-dong (Sangye 1-dong) Village will launch the "Following the Water, Following the Path" Yongcheonsu Ecological Exploration Program at the end of September, linking the Olle Trail and Yerae Ecological Park utilizing Yongcheonsu.

At the Yongcheonsu springs within the ecological park, such as Daewangsu, Sowangsu, and Jomyeongmul, cultural guides will provide tours for nearby elementary school students.

A promotional video highlighting the beauty of Yongcheonsu will also be produced and uploaded to the Sangye 1-dong village YouTube channel, aiming to inform tourists about the historical and cultural significance of Yongcheonsu and its role as a foundation of life in Jeju.

Ilgwa 2-ri (Seorim Youth Association) Village will hold the "Seorim Water Yongcheonsu Drawing Event and Exhibition" in October to preserve traditional living culture spaces such as the Seorim Water Laundry Site.

Centered around the village's youth, various programs will be operated to revive the disappearing Yongcheonsu and raise awareness of its importance. In addition, a promotional video documenting the drawing event and the Yongcheonsu environmental clean-up process will be produced and released through the village's YouTube channel.

Kang Aesook, Director of the Climate and Environment Bureau of Jeju Province, stated, "Through this project, we will establish a systematic foundation for the preservation and sustainable use of Yongcheonsu," and added, "The administration will continue to make active efforts so that village communities can take the lead in these initiatives."
