Mayor Joo Gwangdeok: "Namyangju Public Medical Center Will Break Ground Early in 2028" Joo Gwangdeok, mayor of Namyangju City, is delivering a greeting at a residents' meeting held at Hopyeong Pyeongnae Happiness Center on the 27th as part of Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon's field tour of the people's livelihood economy bus.

This meeting was organized under the theme of addressing the medical service gap in the northeastern region of the Seoul metropolitan area and creating an "innovative public medical center" shaped by citizens. The city aimed to actively highlight both the necessity and urgency of establishing a public medical center, given that Namyangju is a medically underserved area with no large general hospital, despite its growth into a major city with a population of 1 million due to the development of the third phase of new towns.

The event was attended by Governor Kim Dongyeon, Mayor Joo Gwangdeok, local National Assembly members, provincial council members, healthcare experts, officials from the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, and approximately 70 Namyangju citizens.

In particular, a variety of voices were shared by groups such as the Namyangju Public Medical Center Attraction Public-Private-Government Council, residents of the Doosan Alphheim Apartments in Baekbong District, social organizations from Hwado-eup, Hopyeong-dong, and Pyeongnae-dong, as well as the Association of Village Leaders and the Residents' Autonomy Association.

During the meeting, updates were shared on the progress of the public medical center initiative and the status of ongoing research and consulting work.

In his opening remarks, Governor Kim stated, "By obtaining an exemption from the preliminary feasibility study, we can dramatically shorten the project period," and emphasized, "We will work together with Namyangju City to ensure the project breaks ground as soon as possible." He further projected, "If the exemption from the preliminary feasibility study is granted and the Build-Transfer-Lease (BTL) private investment process is expedited, construction could begin in 2028."

Residents in attendance urged the prompt construction of the public medical center to address the area's medical blind spots.

Mayor Joo declared, "As this is something our citizens earnestly desire, we will focus all our efforts to ensure that construction begins early in 2028." He also emphasized, "Securing an exemption from the preliminary feasibility study is a challenge the city cannot accomplish alone, so it is essential for the public, private sector, and government to join forces."

After the meeting, participants visited the planned site for the public medical center in Baekbong District together.

Governor Kim and Mayor Joo, through an on-site briefing by the head of Namyangju City's Future City Promotion Team, reviewed the transportation network, accessibility, and environmental conditions, and reaffirmed both the necessity and their commitment to building the medical center as they toured the site in person.

The Namyangju Public Medical Center in northeastern Gyeonggi Province is expected to address the region's medical service deficiencies and establish itself as an innovative public hospital model that provides emergency and essential medical services, offers specialized local care, takes responsibility for medical fields avoided by the private sector, and integrates both care and support services.
