On August 27, Jeonnam Province held an "Emergency Medical Care Countermeasure Meeting for the Chuseok Holiday" at Jangheung County Health Center with officials from health centers of 22 cities and counties, reviewing preparations for the stable operation of emergency and urgent care systems during the extended holiday period.
This year, Chuseok will be followed by National Foundation Day on October 3, resulting in a 10-day holiday, during which most hospitals and clinics are expected to be closed.
Accordingly, Jeonnam Province conducted a preemptive review to prepare for possible emergency room overcrowding and delays in treatment for critical patients, as even patients with minor symptoms may flock to emergency rooms.
The meeting focused on: ▲ reviewing emergency and urgent care operation plans for each city and county; ▲ discussing measures to address emergency room overcrowding and disperse patients with minor symptoms; ▲ strengthening publicity for hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies that will remain open during the holiday; and ▲ designating one-on-one dedicated supervisors for each emergency medical institution.
Jeonnam Province will guide patients with minor symptoms to receive treatment and prescriptions at open hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and health centers during the holiday, and will strengthen cooperation by pre-designating medical institutions, such as Dalbit Children's Hospital, to respond to pediatric patients.
In addition, the province plans to enhance publicity through various channels, including Naver and Daum portals, the official websites of Jeonnam Province and each city and county, and social media, so that residents can quickly access information on hospitals and pharmacies open during the holiday.
Jeong Gwangseon, Director-General of Health and Welfare for Jeonnam Province, stated, "We will thoroughly prepare together with city and county governments to ensure the emergency medical system operates seamlessly, so that residents can enjoy a safe holiday during this long Chuseok break. We will do our utmost to ensure that there are no gaps in medical care and that everyone can spend the Chuseok holiday with peace of mind."
