Cheongsong County Launches First Large-Scale Distribution of Cheongsong Nectarines

Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province announced that, starting from August 27 until September 30, Cheongsong nectarines will be supplied for the first time to No Brand stores nationwide through the Daegyeong Apple Horticultural Agricultural Cooperative Cheongsong Economic Business Center.

This supply is especially significant as Cheongsong, known as the “home of apples,” is pioneering new sales channels and expanding its brand value with nectarines instead of apples.

The area dedicated to peach cultivation in Cheongsong County more than doubled, increasing from 32.6 hectares in 2012 to 70.8 hectares as of 2022. This change is the result of local farmers diversifying their crops to respond to climate change. Now, it is time for Cheongsong County to create brand value not only with apples but also with peaches.

In particular, Cheongsong nectarines are recognized for their high sugar content and excellent color, making them notable for their quality. Additionally, the harvest period in Cheongsong is later than in other regions, allowing local farmers to avoid competition caused by market oversupply.

Ma Yuchang, head of the Cheongsong Distribution Center at the Daegyeong Apple Horticultural Agricultural Cooperative, stated, “We will do our best to enhance the brand value of Cheongsong nectarines and contribute to increasing farmers’ income by ensuring stable supply to major distributors in the future.”

Governor Yoon Kyunghee said, “We will actively support Cheongsong nectarines so that they can continue the reputation of Cheongsong apples and grow into another leading Cheongsong brand representing Korea.”
