May 18 Memorial Foundation to Hold Policy Forum on Countering Historical Distortion

The May 18 Memorial Foundation and related organizations will hold a policy forum to address the serious issue of historical distortion online.


The forum, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on August 27 at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, will mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation and serve as an important venue for discussions on eradicating historical distortion and promoting social integration.


The main topics of the forum include systematic countermeasures against the spread of historical distortion on online platforms and the legal institutionalization of such efforts. Professor Chae Younggil of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and Adjunct Professor Yoo Seunghyun of Hanyang University are scheduled to present on the current state of online historical distortion and legislative tasks for countermeasures, respectively.


Experts from various fields, including the April 3 Peace Foundation, the Korea Communications Commission, and the legal community, will participate in the forum to explore concrete measures to eradicate historical distortion.


Yoon Mokhyeon, Chairman of the May 18 Memorial Foundation, stated, "I hope this forum will serve as an opportunity to establish clear legal responses to acts of historical distortion and to strengthen the social responsibility of online platforms."


Meanwhile, the forum will be broadcast live through the official YouTube channels of the May 18 Memorial Foundation, the Citizens' Coalition for Democratic Media, and Min Hyungbae TV.
