With Three Weeks Left in Counting, Overall Ranking Expected to Rise

The animation "Kpop Demon Hunters," which features K-pop and Korean shamanism as its main themes, has become the most-watched movie ever on Netflix. According to Netflix's official website Tudum on August 27, the film has accumulated 236 million views, surpassing the action thriller "Red Notice" starring Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, which had 230.9 million views, to claim the number one spot in the overall movie category.

When including shows, it ranks third overall, following "Squid Game" Season 1 (265.2 million) and "Wednesday" Season 1 (252.1 million). Released on June 20, the film still has about three weeks left in Netflix's 91-day counting period, so it could climb even higher in the overall rankings.

Now in its 10th week since release, the film also topped the weekly movie charts-across both English and non-English categories-for the week of August 18 to 24. It maintained a strong performance, reaching number one in 32 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Norway.

Last weekend, a special "sing-along" screening was held in U.S. theaters where audiences sang together, propelling the movie to the top of the North American box office. Netflix also released a sing-along version for viewers to enjoy at home.

Business Insider commented, "Netflix has demonstrated an opportunity to build powerful originals in the family animation sector, which is essential for competing with Disney." The American women's magazine Glamour analyzed, "The story, which embraces self-acceptance and imperfections, has deeply resonated with young women around the world."

"Kpop Demon Hunters" is also making waves with its music. The song "Golden," performed by the main character group "Huntrix" in the film, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on August 25. This marks the song's second time at the top, following its previous achievement on August 11. The track was performed by SM Entertainment trainee Lee Jae, Audrey Nuna, and Ray Ami.

"Kpop Demon Hunters" tells the story of a K-pop idol group that defeats evil spirits and protects the world through song, earning praise for its engaging portrayal of Korean culture.
