Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province, visited Hanwha Aerospace's Changwon Plant 3 on the 26th to congratulate the company on the recent successful export of K9 self-propelled howitzers to Vietnam and requested continued efforts to advance the local defense industry ecosystem.
This visit was organized to support the export expansion of the global defense company, which has been achieving record-breaking results in Changwon, the "Mecca of K-Defense," and to promote mutual growth among large, medium, and small related companies in the region.
Hanwha Aerospace, a global defense company, manufactures aircraft engines and parts as well as ground firepower weapon systems in Changwon. In particular, the K9 self-propelled howitzer is a best-seller that has been exported to nine countries, including those in Europe and the Middle East, thanks to its advanced technology and proven reliability. The recent export to Vietnam once again demonstrates the outstanding performance of the K9 self-propelled howitzer and serves as an opportunity to showcase not only South Korea's defense industry capabilities but also the global standing of Changwon's defense sector.
Acting Mayor Jang Geumyong emphasized, "Thanks to the dedication and efforts of local defense companies, including Hanwha Aerospace, Changwon has firmly established itself as the center of South Korea's defense industry," adding, "The city will contribute to revitalizing the local economy by supporting the creation of a defense industry ecosystem and strengthening the foundation for growth."
