Starting next month, a series of events related to Hangeul will be held in the Sejong area. Thorough preparations have been urged so that visitors to the region can fully experience the unique charm of Sejong, the city of Hangeul culture.

On August 26, Minho Choi, Mayor of Sejong City, held an expanded executive meeting and emphasized, "Through the upcoming Hangeul events, we must firmly imprint the image of the city we aspire to on visitors coming from outside the region."

He instructed thorough preparations for the 2025 Hangeul International Pre-Biennale, which will take place from September 1 at venues including the Jochiwon 1927 Art Center, and for the 2025 Sejong Hangeul Festival, which will be held around Sejong Lake Park on October 9.

Mayor Choi stated, "We must be fully prepared with accommodations, food, and merchandise so that visitors can enjoy their stay in Sejong, a city with diverse and beautiful features," and added, "We also need to meticulously manage the environment and streetscape to showcase the dignity of a Hangeul city and a garden city."

In particular, he instructed a review of benefits that could encourage the use of the Eung Pass and Yeominjeon integrated card to address the shortage of parking spaces during the festival period and to promote public transportation.

He once again called for all-out efforts to secure central government funding ahead of the finalization of next year's government budget proposal.

He emphasized, "Fortunately, the budget items that the city has been focusing on are being smoothly reflected in next year's government budget proposal, but we must not let our guard down until the end," and requested that every effort be made to secure the budget through to the final stages, including the National Assembly review.

He also mentioned the active utilization of the Hansoldong Ancient Tombs, which are scheduled to be designated as Sejong's first nationally designated cultural heritage, as a local cultural tourism resource.

The Hansoldong Ancient Tombs, which will be designated and announced as a national historic site on September 8, consist of 14 ancient tombs built around the year 475 by the Baekje Kingdom and are regarded as an important historic site exemplifying Baekje-era tomb styles.

According to Mayor Choi, if the Hansoldong Ancient Tombs are designated as a nationally designated cultural heritage, Sejong will be able to collaborate with Gongju, Buyeo, and even Nara Prefecture in Japan, all of which share Baekje culture, to jointly host academic conferences and attract tourists.

Mayor Choi stated, "The Hansoldong Ancient Tombs have significant historical value and considerable potential as a cultural tourism asset," and added, "There is a need to utilize them through related tomb experience programs or as a theme park."
