Three Small Libraries Also Recognized, Achieving Top Results
On August 26, Changwon Special City was selected as an excellent library in the "2025 Public Library Operation Evaluation" conducted by Gyeongsangnam-do Province, and received the Governor's Award at the award ceremony held at the main auditorium of the Gyeongnam Representative Library.
The "2025 Gyeongsangnam-do Public Library Operation Evaluation," organized by the Gyeongnam Representative Library, was conducted for 45 public libraries and 90 municipal small libraries within the province.
This evaluation aimed to strengthen library work capabilities by conducting a quantitative assessment on seven categories, including budget, collection, librarians, and services, and a comprehensive review of qualitative elements such as best practices in reading culture promotion and specialization, to select the award-winning institutions.
Public libraries were divided into three groups, A to C, according to their size, and the highest-scoring institution in each group was selected as an excellent library.
In Changwon Special City, Changwon Central Library was chosen as the excellent library in Group A, and Seongsan Library was selected in Group B. In the municipal small library category, among the five award-winning institutions in the province, three from Changwon-Kkumkkuneun Sanho Small Library, Banlim Small Library, and Anmin Cheongsol Village Library-were recognized.
Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "This achievement demonstrates that Changwon Special City is taking a leading role in expanding reading culture among citizens and serving as a cultural hub for the region." He added, "We will continue to do our best so that public libraries and small libraries grow together, enabling all citizens to enjoy high-quality library services close to home."
