Google 'AI Startup School' Launches in Busan... Special Startup Pocha Event Held

Six-Session Program to Be Held at Busan Eurasia Platform

On the afternoon of August 26, the city of Busan will hold a "Special Startup Pocha" event at "Bronx Brewing Company" in Gwangalli to commemorate the launch of the "AI Startup School" in partnership with Google (Google for Startups).

More than 130 people are expected to attend the event, including Mayor Park Hyungjoon, Kim Kyunghoon, President of Google Korea, and Mike Kim, Head of Google Startup Campus Asia-Pacific. The networking event "Startup Pocha," which Google has hosted monthly in Seoul, is being expanded into a regional tour this year to mark its 10th anniversary. The tour will begin in Busan and continue to Gwangju and Gyeongju.

The event will feature an introduction to the AI Startup School, a celebratory performance, lectures by Google experts, and a talk session with AI startup leaders. Jangjun Hwang, Principal Engineer at Google Cloud, will give a lecture on "Startup Survival Strategies in the Era of Generative AI," while Seunghwan Baek, Customer Solutions Manager at Google, will speak on "AI Marketing with Google." In addition, Chanhyung Lee, CEO of the medical IT company Mediac, will host a fireside chat on "The Future of Healthcare with AI."

The AI Startup School program will be held at the Busan Eurasia Platform once a week for six weeks, from August 27 to September 30. Monica Kang, founder of InnovatorsBox, Google engineers, and leading AI startup CEOs will offer free lectures, and some sessions will be broadcast live on Google's YouTube channel.

Graduates of the program will receive preferential consideration in next year's Busan Startup Package business review, mentoring from investors, and opportunities to participate in investor relations events. Google will also issue certificates of completion and award additional points to participants applying for its startup support programs. In addition, ten selected individuals will be given the opportunity to tour the "Google Startup Campus" in Gangnam, Seoul.

Park Hyungjoon, Mayor of Busan, stated, "We will strengthen our collaboration with global companies so that Busan can establish itself as Asia's startup city," adding, "AI Startup School will serve as a foundation for the growth of the local startup ecosystem."

Since its launch in 2023, the Google Startup School has produced 4,632 graduates to date.
