The 'Byeollae Environment Academy' is a civic environmental education program launched to enhance residents' understanding of topics such as climate change, resource circulation, and carbon neutrality, and to encourage voluntary action.
This discussion meeting was organized as part of a program linking environmental education and practice, aiming to build consensus on resource circulation activities that can be implemented in daily life and to promote citizen participation.
The meeting followed a hands-on activity where participants created upcycled keyrings using coffee grounds (the residue left after brewing coffee). More than 30 people, including Mayor Joo Gwangdeok, students, and local residents, attended the event and discussed the connection between the environment and everyday life.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "Environmental activities that can be practiced in daily life are extremely important, and citizen participation serves as the foundation for making the city more sustainable. The city will continue to actively support citizen-centered environmental education and action programs in the future."
A parent who attended the meeting shared, "Through the special vacation lecture and hands-on activities with my child, I was once again reminded of the importance of environmental action. It was a very meaningful time, especially as the mayor visited, listened to the students, and offered encouragement."
