A Hub for Protecting the Rights of Mobile Workers
and Fostering Mutual Exchange
On August 25, Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province held the opening ceremony of the "Yangsan Mobile Worker Hub Shelter" at Cheonglim Tower on Yangsan Station 6-gil and officially began its operation.
The shelter was originally scheduled to officially open on September 2, but the opening date was moved up to provide a safe place as soon as possible amid the ongoing heatwave. Prior to this, the city had completed construction and began a trial operation on August 11.
About 50 people attended the ceremony, including Mayor Na Dongyeon of Yangsan City, provincial and city council members, officials from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, labor organization representatives, and mobile workers. They celebrated the opening of the shelter and shared the policy significance of protecting the rights and welfare of mobile workers.
The shelter was established with a total investment of 1.4 billion won (650 million won from the national government and 750 million won from the city budget), and has a total floor area of 91.37 square meters (27 pyeong).
Inside, the shelter is equipped with various amenities such as air conditioning and heating, a massage chair, a helmet dryer, and mobile phone chargers. Beyond being a simple resting space, it also provides counseling and educational areas to support the protection of mobile workers' rights and encourage mutual exchange.
From the official opening, the facility will be available from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following day. On Sundays, Mondays, and public holidays, when there is no facility manager on duty, entry will be allowed through mobile access authentication to strengthen security and safety.
The city plans to use the opening of the shelter as an opportunity to continuously support local mobile workers-including parcel delivery drivers, food delivery riders, substitute drivers, quick service drivers, and home service workers-so they can overcome social isolation and improve their quality of life in safer working conditions. Together with South Gyeongsang Province, Yangsan City will also work to ensure the stable settlement and operation of the mobile worker shelter project.
Mayor Na Dongyeon stated, "The Mobile Worker Hub Shelter will become more than just a place to rest; it will serve as a space for safety, rights protection, and exchange among mobile workers. We will continue to foster a labor-friendly environment and create a city where everyone can work comfortably."
