Gyeonggi Province held a "Civil Society Meeting for the Activation of Development of U.S. Military Returned Land" at the Northern Provincial Government Building on the 22nd, initiating efforts to establish a cooperative framework with civil society.

The meeting was organized to incorporate diverse opinions from civil society into Gyeonggi Province's development policies, which are being proactively promoted to address balanced regional development issues in northern Gyeonggi centered on U.S. military returned land, and to form a mutual cooperation network.


The meeting, presided over by Kim Sangsoo, Director General for Balanced Development Planning of Gyeonggi Province, was attended by provincial assembly members Lee Youngbong and Lee Inkyu, Choi Kyungho, Chair of the Uijeongbu Citizens' Participation Committee for U.S. Military Returned Land, Shim Woohyun, Chair of the Dongducheon Pan-Citizen Countermeasures Committee, Kim Daeyong, Representative of the Gyeonggi Northern Peace Citizens' Action, and Sun Hokyun, Chair of the Special Committee on U.S. Military Returned Land Policy of the Gyeonggi Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea.


The province shared its policy direction and current progress regarding the development of returned land, and exchanged opinions on issues such as urban development obstacles caused by the prolonged non-return of U.S. military sites, inconveniences faced by residents, and the expansion of region-specific infrastructure.


Through this meeting, the province plans to establish a regular communication channel with civil society for the activation of returned land and ensure that voices from the field are reflected in both the formulation and implementation of development policies for these sites.


Kim Sangsoo, Director General for Balanced Development Planning of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The development of returned land requires close cooperation and communication not only between the government and local authorities but also with civil society above all else," adding, "Gyeonggi Province will work together with civic organizations through open dialogue to create policies that meet the needs of the region."
