On this day, at the 6th National Convention held at Cheongju Osco in Cheongju, Chungbuk, the People Power Party reported the proposed constitutional amendment to party members and unanimously approved it.
As a result, Article 8 of the People Power Party constitution (Relationship Between the Party and the President) now includes a provision prohibiting the President from intervening in major party affairs such as internal elections, nominations, and personnel matters.
Additionally, Article 8-3 (Prohibition of Factionalism) was established, stating that "acts that undermine intra-party democracy, party member autonomy, and fair competition by allowing a specific individual, including the President, or a particular group to dominate the party will not be permitted."
Jung Jinseok, Secretary-General of the People Power Party, explained, "Both provisions are intended to establish a horizontal relationship between the party and the government and to prevent the party from being privatized around a specific individual or undermining intra-party democracy," adding, "This is the first step for the party to regain the public's trust."
